Making sure that you’re providing safe and clean water

The Brutal Facts

Clean water is one of the significant sources of life. Without it, life on earth would be impossible. Water is an indispensable element in man’s everyday life and a vital factor in our economic development, as well. This is why it is disheartening to know that the world is experiencing water crisis at the present. According to Water.Org, there are about 355 million people in developed countries without water access and 780 million people lack access to clean water or to an improved water source; that is approximately one out of nine people. Ironically, more people have mobile phones than a toilet.

In addition, due to the ongoing urbanization and population increase, around 60 million people are left with no choice but to settle in informal areas without sanitation facilities. To make matters worse, an estimated number of 3.4 million people die each year from water-related diseases, sanitation and hygiene-related causes. A report from the World Health organization (WHO) says that 99% of these deaths take place in developing countries. In fact, this water pollution and lack of access to sanitation cause the decline of mortality rate of children at a rate of a jumbo jet crashing every four hours and that 443 million school days were lost due to water-related diseases.

Diseases caused by Scarcity of Clean Water

At the moment, the major cause of illness is fecal matter. A disturbing fact tells us that only 10% of water is treated while the rest goes directly to lakes, rivers and oceans. One of the prevalent diseases in developing countries is diarrhea. The main reason is the lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation together with people’s poor status regarding health, hygiene and nutrition. In the 80’s, it was reported that a child died in every six seconds due to diarrhea. Moreover, 90% of the deaths are children under 5 years of age. Majority of the global cases of diarrhea is apparently attributed to unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene.  Presently, about 50% of the hospitals beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-related diseases caused by poor sanitation.

Providing Clean Water

There are several ways on how to provide safe and clean water for your loved ones. From primitive to elaborate steps, these alternatives can surely help prevent problems that are caused by unsafe drinking water. One of the common ways of water purification is sterilization by boiling. If the water is contaminated, boiling is the recommendable method of purifying it.

Another alternative is to install an in-house water filtration system and this comes in numerous types. The simplest type is the “pour-through” container. This is done by placing the water in a container with filter. The water then runs through the filter thus screening out the harmful particles and contaminants. There are also faucet filters that are attached directly on the water faucets and under the sink. The most elaborate type is the whole-house system which is designed to filter all the water that enters the house.

The whole house units that we sold are mainly used for various purposes such as showering and bathing, watering the garden and the livestock, cleaning the vehicles and of course, drinking clean, safe and structured water. In this way, the whole family gets to enjoy their drinking water without having to worry about getting sick!
